The Long Goodbye (1966) by Raymond Chandler – Penguin Books Edition
Sold by Crappy Old Books
Dive into the smoky, sun-drenched world of Los Angeles noir with The Long Goodbye, Raymond Chandler’s penultimate masterpiece featuring the ever-weary but razor-sharp private eye, Philip Marlowe. First published in 1953 and reissued by Penguin Books in 1966, this edition captures Chandler at his most reflective and literary.
Marlowe finds himself entangled in a twisting tale of friendship, betrayal, murder, and money when a casual favor for a drunken stranger turns into a deep dive through the underbelly of L.A.’s elite. With his usual mix of dry wit and existential dread, Marlowe navigates corrupt cops, doomed dames, and washed-up writers.
This Penguin edition may be a bit dog-eared—maybe a coffee ring here, a torn corner there—but it still packs a punch. Crappy Old Books doesn’t promise pristine; we promise character. And this one’s got it in spades.
Perfect for fans of classic noir, vintage paperbacks, and stories that don’t wrap up neatly—because in Chandler’s world, nothing ever does.
I repaired the cover on this by reattaching it to the book block with a thin strip of folded paper. Its a good repair and brings the book back into full use. Whilst the paper is proper repair paper, acid free, for repairing books, its not a brilliant math as the book is yellowed, but it is a strong hinge and the repair looks pretty good, considering the cover had come clean away.
Binding etc good and strong, but book very worn overall. Quite a piece piece really and I think the cover is quite rare.
